Information for Parents- Returning to school in September
Tue 14 Jul 2020Information for parents: Safe, Happy, Learning - Returning to school in September
We are looking forward to all children returning to school on 7th September. You will have received a separate message explaining your child’s new class.
We need your help to make sure that all children and staff are as safe as possible.
DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL IF ANYONE IN YOUR HOUSE IS DISPLAYING SYMTOMS OF CORONAVIRUS
ARRANGE A TEST IMMEDIATELY AND LET US KNOW THE RESULTS
PLEASE REMEMBER TO KEEP 2 METRES AWAY FROM OTHER FAMILY GROUPS
We will have a staggered timetable to reduce the amount of people at the beginning and end of the school day.
Year 1, 3 and 5 should arrive at 8:45 and leave school at 3:00
Year 2, 4 and 6 should arrive at 9:15 and leave school at 3:30
There will be a one way system for these year groups. They must enter via the Hub side gate and walk across the playground at the back of the school and leave via the gate by Arts Centre.
Reception classes will work from 9:00 and leave school at 3:15 and will enter into the Reception outside area and follow the one way system out of the school.
Nursery sessions will run from 8:30 – 11:30 and 12:30 to 3:30 and children will use the Children’s Centre entrances
One adult should bring each child unless the child is old enough to walk to school by themselves. Only members of the same family should share a car. Children are not allowed to cycle to school at the moment.
Sorry, we cannot allow any adults into school.
Please telephone the school office if you have any questions. It will not be possible to be safe if several mums, dads or carers come into the main entrance.
We will expect the same high standards of behaviour as usual. It is so important that the children follow instructions and stay with their group. If your child cannot follow this routine we will need to call you to help keep everyone safe.
All children must wear school uniform with trainers. To start with children will not change for PE lessons.
The children are only allowed to bring a coat, drink and their lunch into school.
If your child needs to change their clothes during the day we will help them do this. However, if this is difficult we will need to call you to help.
How are we reducing the risk of infection?
- Your child will spend most of their time with their own class. They will mix with the rest of their year group during playtimes. Sometimes your child may work with children across their year group in small groups.
- Your child will wash their hands regularly through the day.
- Your child will have their own equipment and any shared equipment will be cleaned regularly with the children washing their hands before and after use.
- We will keep rooms well ventilated and work outside as much as we can.
- Classrooms will be cleaned thoroughly each day with particular attention to desk surfaces and handles.
- If a child becomes unwell they will be isolated in the medical room and you will be asked to come and collect them from the school
- All children or adults connected with the school will have priority access to the testing system. If anyone shows signs of a new continuous cough, a raised temperature, loss of the sense of smell or loss of the sense of taste they must immediately arrange a test and keep the school informed .
We will keep all our procedures under careful review and let you know of any changes on a weekly basis.

A message from our catering supplier Aspens
Mon 13 Jul 2020Dear Parents/Carers
We want to take this opportunity to give you some really important information about your school meal service from September and reassure you that we have everything covered so we can continue to feed children around the country safely.
At Aspens, many of our team are parents themselves and have faced similar challenges over the past four months - homeschooling, keeping young minds positive and feeding them 24/7 to name a few. We want to take this opportunity to reassure you that our food provision continues to be healthy, nutritious but above all else, safe in the unprecedented environment we have found ourselves in.
From September, schools will kick start their minds, their mental health will improve when they are reunited with their friends and we want to make sure that we also contribute to their wellbeing by giving them nutritious food, safely, from day one.
We appreciate how many changes schools are having to make to keep children and staff safe and we are working with them to offer the best food solution according to their individual requirements. We also need to make sure it's still an enjoyable experience for all.
Here’s a summary of what we are doing behind the scenes to give you reassurance as you head into the summer break:
- All changes made will be in conjunction with up to date government led guidance and advice, especially around social distancing, food safety and enhanced cleaning regimes. This includes agreeing with your school changes to timings and locations if required.
- Food suppliers are able to support changes needed in delivery schedules to ensure that there is limited crossover and a ‘no contact’ process. For example, no entrance to the kitchens will be allowed and delivery boxes are to be unpacked and wiped before storage.
- Our due diligence procedures, including food hygiene and safety have new, enhanced recording procedures ready for September. Each meal service is then certified as being compliant by our Head of QHSE.
- Our teams are carrying out specific return to work and COVID-19 training and will be certified "fit to work" before returning.
- We are also reviewing payment methods and ordering processes to ensure we are providing the safest method possible.
- Our lunches provide a nutritious range of food that differs every day and will get their taste buds buzzing again. This will take the pressure away from parents/carers, having to provide that balance and variety with a lunch from home.
We also understand that there may be some families that have had a change in financial circumstances and may now be entitled to apply for Free School Meals. Please look into this. This website helps you to establish if you can claim.
https://www.gov.uk/apply-free-school-meals
We are experts in feeding school aged children and are really looking forward to providing your child with their school meal when we return in September. We also look forward to welcoming all the new starters to school.
I hope this letter has helped to make your decision about school food easier and we will provide more detailed information about the return to school food closer to September.

September
The Government has published guidelines for all children returning to school in September.
We are now in the process of revising our risk assessments and procedures to meet the new requirements. This is likely to include some staggered start and finish times. We plan to share the details of our plan later in the week.
The new term is due to start on Monday 7th September.
Home learning
Please remember to post examples of home learning onto the new portfolios. For Year 2,3,4,5 and 6 these are in the new year group classes.
If you need help with dojo, help will be available in school to show you what to do.
We do understand how difficult it is to support home learning. We hope these materials help but we only ask families to do their best with their children. Sometimes taking a break is really important. You can always return to learning activities later in the day.
It is also helpful to practise basic skills such as:
• Maths – counting and/or multiplication tables
• A reading activity with an adult or older brother or sister
• Practising spelling or phonics
• A short writing activity
• A physical activity
These can be done in a variety of ways – sometimes without the children even noticing!!
There remain a huge amount or really useful and enjoyable resources available on the internet. These can also be used at any stage. We think the following are particularly helpful:
